I want to take a break from my article on the debate surrounding the idea of a ‘Living Wage’ to discuss this meme up top and this article underneath as they relate to each other. The meme on top is an example of a false dichotomy. It employs unrelated topics used for propaganda in a horribly effective way to falsely imply the two concepts are oppositional. It is extremely common to see on Facebook and Twitter, and President Trump has spent an unusual amount of time away from his duties posting such memes. The Russians took full advantage of the American ideological divide to further such divisions, in the same manner, that current commander-in-chief of the world’s most powerful military employs. The link under this meme is an example of why this meme is insane. To surmise the article, ‘An off duty soldier is killed by an off duty cop, because the soldier was stopping a mass shooter and the cop made a gut-wrenching, horribly huge mistake and shot the wrong person.’ Protesting police shooting black men doesn’t negate the tragedy of warfighters dead. Honestly the fact that warfighters are disproportionately ethnic minorities and of disadvantaged socio-economic background makes the way propaganda has twisted the narrative of kneeling during the NFL to be a protest of veterans as downright bizarre. And we know this. We’re not stupid. People know what is going on in the NFL isn’t a protest against veteran’s issues. We know religion is a myth. We know the emperor wears no clothes. We’re just too scared to call it out because our society oppresses veterans and black people.
